Frankie showed me that dancing is about expressing music — it is more than just a single move but rather about doing the move at the right time.
Life is like that—may we all learn to act in the moment.

I’ve wanted to write a book about Frankie since the early ‘90s, when it struck me that here was this amazing guy that far too few people outside the Lindy world knew anything about, yet almost everyone you meet knows what the word Jitterbug means, and what the dance looks like. “Frankie created many of the signature moves of this dance – people should know about that!” I said to myself.
So, in honor of his 95th birthday, Emily Belt and I decided to see if we could pull together a booklet of stories to present to him in New York.
Now he’s finished his journey here on the planet – he died on Monday, April 27 at about 7:45 am EST, surrounded by family, friends, and dancers. He will be sorely missed.
There will be many ways people will be wanting to honor him in the days to come. If you would like to add to these, please include your story in the comments of any of the stories posted. We'll compile your stories and add them as separate posts as we receive them, time permitting. They will comfort his loved ones, to know how much who he was and how he did what he did mattered to so many people around the world.
